Same Day Crown

With the latest in dental technology, Fedorciw, Massoumi, & Kolbig now offers same day crowns. Inspired by our mission statement, “To provide you with the best that dentistry has to offer,” our office has been equipped with the E4D Dentist™System which enables us to prepare and fabricate crowns of superior strength and esthetics in as little as one day.

Our E4D Dentist™System combines Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) technology, allowing us to mill custom dental restorations in our office. With nothing more than a simple 3-D scan of your teeth, this method is fast, accurate, and far more comfortable than traditional dental techniques. In as little as two hours, you can leave our office with your new, permanent dental crown, onlay, or veneer.

  • A tooth with a large filling and little remaining natural structure
  • After root canal treatment, to protect the restored tooth
  • Cosmetic enhancement for misshapen or severely discolored teeth

Why Same Day Crowns are Needed

With E4D Dentist technology, we can design, create, and fit your custom crown in a single visit, saving you time and inconvenience.

Treatment Process

The Same Day Crown process includes:

  1. Initial Consultation: Examining your tooth and discussing the treatment plan.
  2. Digital Impressions: Using advanced digital technology to create a 3D image of your tooth.
  3. Designing the Crown: The E4D Dentist system designs the crown to match your teeth’s shape, size, and color.
  4. Milling the Crown On-Site: The crown is milled from a block of high-quality ceramic, ensuring a perfect match and fit.
  5. Placement and Adjustment: The crown is fitted, adjusted, and bonded to your tooth, all in the same visit.

What can I expect when undergoing same day dentistry at Fedorciw, Massoumi, & Kolbig?

When undergoing same-day dentistry at Fedorciw, Massoumi, & Kolbig, you can expect that the affected tooth will be prepared for a dental crown or other restoration. To prepare your tooth, we will first anesthetize the affected tooth and the surrounding area to keep you comfortable. Then, you tooth will be prepared for your dental restoration by removing or reshaping the enamel to accommodate the restoration.

Next, a digital scan will be taken of your mouth using specialized laser scanning technology. Unlike other CAD/CAM methods, E4D does not require the use of reflective powder to obtain a clear, precise image. This means that with only a simple laser scan, enough digital information is obtained to create a digital image of your mouth.

This digital image then uses DentalLogic ™ software to design your dental restoration. Using the information obtained, the type, size, shape, color, and even texture of your dental restoration will be specified and sent to an in-office milling machine. This machine will custom fabricate your dental restoration while you wait.

The entire fabrication process can take anywhere from about 60-90 minutes. During this process, the size, shape, and texture of your restoration are created will burs. Then, your restoration is polished and glazed to obtain the correct color and translucent appearance to make it blend in with the rest of your teeth. Finally, the restoration is fired in an oven.

Once your restoration is complete, it will be checked for its fit and color. After the fit and color have been confirmed, our dentists will cement the restoration into place and your dental appointment will conclude. In as little as one dental appointment, you can go home with a completed, permanent restoration.

How long does same day dentistry take?

Same day dentistry appointments generally take about two hours from start to finish. However, if you prefer, we can place a provisional restoration and have you return at a later time to finish your procedure. Same day dentistry simply offers a new level of flexibility for your dental appointments.

What should I expect after my same day dentistry appointment?

After your same day dentistry appointment, you will leave our office with a permanent restoration in place. Because your restoration is permanent, you will have no restrictions like you would with a provisional restoration. This means once your mouth has regained feeling, you are free to eat whatever you choose. In some cases, however, you may experience a brief period of tooth sensitivity. This is to be expected since part of your enamel was removed to place your restoration, and should fade within a few days once your teeth have adjusted.

How do I care for my same day dental restoration?

Caring for your same day dental restoration is easy because you will care for it in the same way you would care for your natural teeth. This means brushing twice a day using fluoridated toothpaste for two minutes at a time, flossing once a day, and visiting Fedorciw, Massoumi, & Kolbig twice a year for your dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings.

Additionally, to prevent your restoration from becoming damaged, we recommend avoiding detrimental behaviors like chewing ice, biting your nails, grinding or clenching your teeth, or using your teeth to open packages. Even though same day restorations are strong, they are not completely indestructible and can become damaged over time with these behaviors.

What is my same day restoration made of?

At Fedorciw, Massoumi, & Kolbig, our same day restorations are made from lithium disilicate. Lithium disilicate is a crystalline glass-ceramic that combines the strength of metal restorations with the aesthetics of ceramic restorations. However, lithium disilicate is a single material that can be easily milled with CAD/CAM application and used as an inlay, onlay, veneer, partial crowns, crowns, or bridges in any area of the mouth.

Furthermore, multiple independent laboratories have reported excellent clinical performance after five-year studies;its longevity has exceeded that of traditional porcelain/gold restorations, as well as, many all-ceramic restorations. This metal-free material has proven to be strong and durable, yet highly esthetic.

How much will my same day restoration cost?

Your same day restoration will cost about the same price as a normal restoration. The final cost will depend on the materials used, as well as the type of restoration produced. Because E4D Dentistry is done in office, its faster treatment also eliminates the need for dental lab fees or provisional restoration fees, allowing its cost to come out to about the same. With dental insurance, you may also be able to obtain full or partial coverage, although most dental insurance companies will only offer partial coverage.
